The Employment Permit is issued to foreigners who enter Zambia to take up employment for a period exceeding six months. It is issued to a foreigner who is:
- Employed by the Government of Zambia or a statutory body;
- Employed by the private sector, Non-Governmental Organisations (including a person employed as a volunteer) or a religious organization; and
- The spouse and children, over twenty-one years, of a foreigner.
A Temporary Employment Permit is another available option that can be used. It is issued to any business visitor who intends to remain in Zambia for a period exceeding thirty (30) days.
The employment permits are available online in full: from filling in the electronic forms to online payment for the requested service and receiving the expected results also online. It is possible to apply for these online, on the Government Electronic Services Portal – ZamServices portal (https://eservices.gov.zm/).
The applications for employment permits, filled in and submitted online, are received and processed by the Zambia Department of Immigration (ZDI), which in turn, issues the requested permits. ZDI will receive, process and issue both Employment Permit and Temporary Employment Permit, as well as other permits.
